Hello! My name is Daisy Trujillo and I am so excited to be the school counselor at Ireland Elementary. This will be my 9th year of being a school counselor and my 5th at Ireland Elementary. I am very passionate about mental health and helping spark social, emotional, and academic growth in the next generation of kids.
Classroom Education – Every month I will be doing various psychoeducational lessons in each classroom. I will be covering relevant topics such as character education, mindfulness, our brains, and college and career readiness. These lessons are specifically designed and tailored for each grade level to help insure the success of all students in and out of the classroom. Character Education lessons consist of books related to the topic, group activities, independent activities, videos and discussions. Often, children will be rewarded during lessons for participating with pencils, treats, erasers, etc.
The character lessons serve to promote and instill the value of a virtuous character. Each month, teachers choose one student from their homeroom that they feel exemplifies this character trait. The chosen student’s name and picture is displayed on our class dojo shared with our, Ireland parents; as well as receiving acknowledgement.
Group Counseling- I will conduct small group counseling throughout the entire school year. These groups are made up of multiple students that are dealing with similar issues. The sessions are created to help target any hardship a student may be going through, such as: anger management, anxiety, grief, making and keeping friends, self-esteem, and social skills. These sessions help students gain confidence in themselves, which will ultimately help them perform better in school.
Individual Counseling- I will also work with individual students in any capacity that is needed. I accept requests from students, teachers, parents and principals for individual counseling. If a child or parent would like routine counseling visits, a parent consent form must be completed.
Thank you for sharing your children with me. I look forward to getting to know and working with them! Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, either by phone or email.
